Ainy Cooks

mothers dayI cannot think of a more thankless job. I don’t like to call it a job, but it is work, with long hours, no vacations and no pay, being a MOM is one of the most rewarding jobs there is. Ask almost any mother out there and they will tell you that there is not a more rewarding job/role to have then to be a mother.
It was an honor for me when The City School Attock Branch, management invited me to bake something with 5th grade students for their Mothers on this Mother’s Day.
Baking with young kids was a lot of fun and a great experience, we spent more then 2 hours together and shared special moments that will be treasured forever. Many people do not realize that this activity is a key factor or you can say a Tool to teach and developing skills in your children that are needed for school.Science is involve in cooking or baking, we use maths skills during counting and measuring, visual and spatial perceptual skills for example poring, mixing, arranging etc and a lot of coordination skills.

I had few things in my mind so i planned this activity accordingly. SM of City School Aiza Imran, gave me full cooperation. She herself is a full of life lady. It was really nice to work with her. How i planned this activity, let me explain in detail.

GROUPS: I divided them in three groups to encourage them work together in a team. Teamwork is necessary to build confidence in each other.Kids responded very well.

READING & WRITING SKILLS: We provided them unwritten recipe cards, I explained them ingredients list and method. This skill is for improving comprehension and vocabulary. They showed a lot of interest in writing the whole recipe and even asked me a lot of questions related to ingredients.

MATHS : Measuring is an important skill which they can learn during this fun activity. They can learn to measure, level, count, add, divide etc. I explained these all during activity.

CURIOSITY: Baking or cooking can encourage students to think and ask. Like students asked from me about Butter milk, why we added vinegar to make butter milk.I told them about a chemical reaction between milk and vinegar. They asked about the use of vanilla essence in cakes and a lot of similar questions they asked during this activity.

cb6

DEVELOP PATIENCE: Patiently they were helping me out and giving each other chance to work with me.

cb19

ORGANIZING SKILLS: They learned how to make cupcake toppers and then wrap cupcakes beautifully. This for me is an organizing skill πŸ™‚

The recipe I have selected was Very easy and no fail, with this recipe you can make cake or cupcakes.Check the recipe here: CHOCOLATE CAKE.
I can not forget the brightness on the faces of kids after completing their tasks. They payed tribute to their moms by singing a beautiful song. It was memorable day for me but also for them too.

A small tribute to Mothers from me:

Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath.
Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step.
Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall.
Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.

Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow.
Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn’t always show.
Her hands helped hold the stars in place, and encouraged me to reach.
Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length.

Her hands would also push me, though not down or in harm’s way.
Her hands would punctuate the words, just do what I say.
Her hands sometimes had to discipline, to help bend this young tree.
Her hands would shape and mold me into all she knew I could be.

Her hands are now twisting with age and years of work,
Her hand now needs my gentle touch to rub away the hurt.
Her hands are more beautiful than anything can be.
Her hands are the reason I am me.
