karela-aloo-mWhen my cousin sister Nusrat Matti told me about this dish I was literally laughing but after watching her dish I requested her to share recipe with my readers. I am grateful to her for such an easy and awesome recipe.


Karela/ bitter gourd1 kg, Wash and dry then cut in cubes.
Tomatoes6-7 medium size
Onion3, medium size, sliced
Potatoes4, large
Oil 1/2 cup
Garlic paste1 tbsp
Saltto taste
Red chili powderto taste, 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder1 tsp
Cumin seeds, roasted1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder/ all spice powder1/4 tsp
Green chilies4-5
Coriander leavesas needed


  • Wash karela/ bitter gourd and cut in cubes, removes seeds.
  • Make paste of tomatoes in blender. Set aside.
  • Fry karela in 2 tbsp oil and set aside.


  • In a wok add oil 1/2 cup and saute garlic for few minutes.
  • Now add blended tomatoes, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder. Mix all well and cook till oil separates.


  • Add potatoes and a little amount of water. Cover with the lid and let it cook till potatoes tender.
  • Add onion and mix well.


  • Now add karela and stir for few minutes, Let it simmer till oil separates.


  • Before serving add coriander leaves, green chilies , garam masala and roasted cumin seeds.


  • Serve with Lasi and Naan.
