shashlik mChicken Shashlik is one of the most popular dish here in Pakistan. Normally serve with Fried rice specially in winter season. Shashlik means meat in skewer. It was made with meat originally. But now a days we use cubes of chicken. My kids love this dish.

INGREDIENTS FOR SHASHLIK:

Chicken cut in cubes1/2 kg
Mustard paste1 tsp
Saltto taste
Ketchup3 tbsp
garlic paste1 tbsp
Crushed red chilies 1 tbsp
Sugar2 tsp
Soya sauce2 tbsp
Oyster sauce2 tbsp
Vinegar2 tbsp
Oilfor frying
Capsicum cut in cubesas needed
Tomatoes cut in cubesas needed
Onion cut in cubesas needed
Shashlik sticksas needed

METHOD:

  • Marinate chicken with all spices and leave it for an hour or two.
  • Take a wooden skewer and insert onion, capsicum and tomatoes (should be in cubes) then chicken cube. Repeat this sequence.
  • In a pan spray oil and fry till well cooked. You can bake or grill them too.
  • Arrange on platter and serve with sauce or drizzle on top of Shashlik.

INGREDIENTS FOR SAUCE:

Tomatoes6 large size
Saltto tatse
Garlic paste1 tbsp
Crushed red chili 1/2 tsp
Crushed black pepper1/2 tsp
Red chili powder1/2 tsp
Sugar2 tbsp
Oil2 tbsp
Water1 cup

METHOD:

  • In a pot add water and tomatoes in halves. Boil for 5 minutes and cover with the lid.  Turn off the flame and remove skin of tomatoes.
  • Let them cool, grind and set aside.
  • In a pan add oil and garlic mince. Sauté and add tomato paste in it. Stir and add all spices.
  • Mix spices well and let sauce cook till thick.
  • Serve with Shahlik and Fried Rice.
