Poem My little Girls

science project mI and my sons worked on this cute project for School’s Science Exhibition. We collected ideas from Google and combined all ideas to make ARCTIC REGION. Interesting thing for my kids was making Penguins, polar bear, seal from Polymer Clay. They enjoyed shaping clay into cute animals. I have arranged all animals in a Box.

science project d

I have used cotton to give snow effect. Polymer clay of blue color to show water.

science project 2

For Igloo, I have used coconut shell. Spread glue all over it and iron foamic sheet, it will become soft, quickly spread it tightly on coconut shell. Cut the extra sheet and make lines with black marker.

What can I say of my wonderful mother,
An extraordinary person, a mom like no other.
Whenever I need you, you’re always there;
You listen, understand, and show that you care.

You do the things other mothers all do,
But Mom, there’s just so much more to you.
It’s hard to describe the feelings I feel;
My love for you, Mom, is deep and real.

I appreciate you more than I ever could say;
To my extraordinary mom: Happy Mother’s Day!

TOMATO BASKET CARVING

file1722Carving is not an easy job but this can beautify your dish or salad platter. I loved the idea of making basket from Tomato. You can serve salad in small baskets or even can serve rice in large tomato baskets.
For leaves I have used peeler to peel thin slices of cucumber.

mothers dayI cannot think of a more thankless job. I don’t like to call it a job, but it is work, with long hours, no vacations and no pay, being a MOM is one of the most rewarding jobs there is. Ask almost any mother out there and they will tell you that there is not a more rewarding job/role to have then to be a mother.
It was an honor for me when The City School Attock Branch, management invited me to bake something with 5th grade students for their Mothers on this Mother’s Day.
Baking with young kids was a lot of fun and a great experience, we spent more then 2 hours together and shared special moments that will be treasured forever. Many people do not realize that this activity is a key factor or you can say a Tool to teach and developing skills in your children that are needed for school.Science is involve in cooking or baking, we use maths skills during counting and measuring, visual and spatial perceptual skills for example poring, mixing, arranging etc and a lot of coordination skills.

I had few things in my mind so i planned this activity accordingly. SM of City School Aiza Imran, gave me full cooperation. She herself is a full of life lady. It was really nice to work with her. How i planned this activity, let me explain in detail.

GROUPS: I divided them in three groups to encourage them work together in a team. Teamwork is necessary to build confidence in each other.Kids responded very well.

c b 1

READING & WRITING SKILLS: We provided them unwritten recipe cards, I explained them ingredients list and method. This skill is for improving comprehension and vocabulary. They showed a lot of interest in writing the whole recipe and even asked me a lot of questions related to ingredients.

cb45

MATHS : Measuring is an important skill which they can learn during this fun activity. They can learn to measure, level, count, add, divide etc. I explained these all during activity.

cb3

CURIOSITY: Baking or cooking can encourage students to think and ask. Like students asked from me about Butter milk, why we added vinegar to make butter milk.I told them about a chemical reaction between milk and vinegar. They asked about the use of vanilla essence in cakes and a lot of similar questions they asked during this activity.

cb6

DEVELOP PATIENCE: Patiently they were helping me out and giving each other chance to work with me.

cb19

ORGANIZING SKILLS: They learned how to make cupcake toppers and then wrap cupcakes beautifully. This for me is an organizing skill 🙂

cb42

The recipe I have selected was Very easy and no fail, with this recipe you can make cake or cupcakes.Check the recipe here: CHOCOLATE CAKE.
I can not forget the brightness on the faces of kids after completing their tasks. They payed tribute to their moms by singing a beautiful song. It was memorable day for me but also for them too.

cb50
A small tribute to Mothers from me:

Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath.
Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step.
Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall.
Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.

Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow.
Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn’t always show.
Her hands helped hold the stars in place, and encouraged me to reach.
Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length.

Her hands would also push me, though not down or in harm’s way.
Her hands would punctuate the words, just do what I say.
Her hands sometimes had to discipline, to help bend this young tree.
Her hands would shape and mold me into all she knew I could be.

Her hands are now twisting with age and years of work,
Her hand now needs my gentle touch to rub away the hurt.
Her hands are more beautiful than anything can be.
Her hands are the reason I am me.

Baking is really helpful activity to develop skills. You can involve your kids at home too.Just grab an apron and lets get baking with your kids. Truly, the fun they will have and skills they will learn, far outweigh the temporary mess 🙂

BIDH BASKET DECOR

bidh mOn the wedding day, it is traditional in Pakistani families for the groom’s side to distribute party favor bags /pouches along with Baskets filled with all nuts to Bride’s family after the nikkah.
I have decorated Bidh baskets for a family friend’s wedding. I always enjoy doing dry arrangement work, thou its not an easy job with my kids but i love to do handicrafts.
I used dry pine cones, coconut seeds, wheat plants. After giving bath of golden and silver spray ,sprinkled glitter dust on them.
Left them to dry for few hours.

bidh 1
Then took a bunch of artificial flowers and spray with golden and silver spray. Dust glitter. After drying i arranged all the things near baskets and first cover them with Net. With hot gun glue secured the edges and stick Gotta on edges of basket.

Here is my little garden,
Some seeds I’m
Going to sow.

Here is my rake
To rake the ground,
Here is my handy hoe.

Here is the big
Round yellow sun,
The sun warms everything.
Here are the rain clouds
In the sky,
The birds will start to sing.

Little plants will
Wake up soon,
And lift their sleepy heads.
Little plants will
Grow and grow
From their warm earth beds.

Strawberries are my all time favorite.I am sure most of yours too 🙂

a i mOh yes it was a big pleasant surprise for me when KFOODS ( a well reputed food website) asked me to give an interview as a food expert (thou i considered myself still a learner..lol). It was an exciting experience for me. I would like to thanks KFOODS management for considering me and ranking me as a Top expert 🙂
One question which i liked most was:

What is the difference between cooking of a housewife and a chef?

My answer was 🙂

A chef is someone who is paid to make food… and on other hand our (house wives) reward is praise by our family members and satisfaction on their faces. We, home cooks know we are giving our family a balance and healthy diet / food. I can cook good, delicious food at home daily, not as fancy as you enjoy at hotels and restaurants yet house women have a lot of talent and creativity to satisfy their family members.
Preparing fine restaurant level food demands a restaurant kitchen, lots of equipment, and a crew of supporting staff. When those beautifully arranged courses come out of the kitchen, with clean plate actually that’s the work of 3-4 cooks, or chefs, standing around a table and assembling the plate. That’s chef work, and not many of us can do this at home.

FISH FONDANT

f fish mWithout using any cutter or mold you can easily make these small creatures for your cupcake toppings for your kids. Fondant can beautify your cakes and cupcakes 🙂

Fishy fish munch, munch, munch.
Eats his food with a big crunch!
Fishy, fishy swimming by
He just looked! Maybe saying “HI”
Fishy, fishy swimming around
The mayor of his own little town.
Fishy, fishy Yummy, Yummy
Now…he is in my tummy.
